How the traces are organized

The TraceView frame containing Splitted View has two views: master (bottommost) and work (topmost). Master shows all traces, with no respect to whether they are visible or active regions set. Work view shows only visible traces, and tries to maximally magnify the active regions. Another way to get info and modify is to use [Data] tab on workspace. You can also

Making trace visible and selected

In master view, the default action for trace header mouse click is to toggle visible property, by holding <Ctrl> key, you toggle the selected property and vice versa for work view. (Click makes trace selected, <Ctrl>-click - visible).

Active trace region

Active trace region is a data subset which is available for other tools. All visual tools, as well as script commands, use only active trace region. If you select an active region, and then invoke, i.e. Spectrum Tool, it will show you spectra for active region ONLY. When the trace is only loaded, it has active region set to whole data (all data is available). For more information on internal data structures and conventions, refer to appropriate section in Programmer's Manual


Loading & Saving data

Use [File] workspace menu to load and store the data. For information on supported formats, refer to IO page.


Overlays are data traces which are displayed over an active trace region for traces, marked as selected. Use toolbar button for changing overlays scale: Relative (the data overlayed has the same scale as underlying trace), or "Fit bounds" to maximally magnify the overlay. But hitting toolbar button [No overlays] you can remove overlay methods for given view. Overlays are usually used by various tools to preview their results.

Changing canvas size

Hold the <SHIFT> button and drag with left mouse button over canvas rulers to modify X/Y axes scale.

Copy & Paste

Copy and Paste data facility is provided. Use  Copy button to copy the active regions of selected traces to clipboard. Use  Paste button to paste data from clipboard to current TraceView. The clipboard data is shared between different views.

Drag - and -Drop

This facility is expected to be enabled in further releases, but at the moment, due to numerous bugs in JVM implementations concerning D-n-D,   it is not available.

Keyboard Bindings

<Cntrl-A>: select all traces
<Cntrl-U>: deselect all traces
<Cntrl-H>: hide all traces
<Cntrl-S>: show all traces

<Cntrl-C>: copy selection to clipboard
<Cntrl-X>: cut selection to clipboard
<Cntrl-V>: paste data from clipboard

<DEL>: removes selected traces

Printing and exporting view

Ability to save document in any graphical format is provided thru standart JPITSA export mechanism. Use  Print toolbar button. More information on printing and exporting documents is available here.
